The results of your analysis say:
You plan ahead, and are interested in beauty, design, outward appearance, and symmetry. You are a shy, idealistic person who does not find it easy to have relationships, especially intimate ones. You are negative, fearful, resistant, doubtful, and/or selfish. You are reserved, shy, cautious, and thoughtful. You enjoy life in your own way and do not depend on the opinions of others.
What does your handwriting say about YOU?

| Surprise! It's Social Distortion |
[Sep. 28th, 2005|09:53 am] |
In a pleasant surprise I received a call at 4:30 yesterday afternoon offering tickets to go see Social Distortion. I've heard a few of their songs, and we used to play a video or two back on Back Porch Video, but I wasn't that familiar. Seemed a good opportunity to see what they were about! We arrived at the Royal Oak Music Theater too late to see Bullets & Octane, the first opener, but we did see most of Mest. They were typical modern punk, swinging between crushing real punk and whiney garbage. A solid "alright" on the ratings scale. Even during an anthemic punk song it sounded like he was calling the "Fuck you!" in. Social D made up for it, though, with a solid sound and a solid set. WSMTY will soon have some social Distortion, I think. I need to find out which albums to buy, so if anyone has recommendations, I'd appreciate it!
The crowd was diverse, with old punk kids, new punk kids, rockabilly kids, country fans, even a goth or two. All in all a fun time was had by all. |

Dave's back in town, so a bunch of us went with Dave and his dad out to see the Tigers. This is becoming something of a yearly event, since last year we all went out to see the Tigers play the Twins. Did I say play? I meant get trounced by! And holy christ was it a trouncing. They had an ad up for Fantasy Baseball Camp for kids, I assumed that they simply understood they needed new players RIGHT NOW.
Then later that night I did some guitarcasting. An audience of two. Whee! |

| another nerd/geek test... why do I take these meaningless tests? |
[Aug. 24th, 2005|10:22 am] |
Modern, Cool Nerd 69 % Nerd, 65% Geek, 26% Dork | For The Record: A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one. A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions. You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd. Nerds didn't use to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eeked out for themselves a modicrum of respect at the very least, and "geek is chic." The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent, knowledgable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). They are the one you want as your lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (or the one up there, winning the million bucks)! Congratulations! | | |
My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: | You scored higher than 72% on nerdiness | | You scored higher than 90% on geekosity | | You scored higher than 40% on dork points |

To avoid art fair, a bunch of us went out to Plymouth last night to catch Mossy's set at Sean O'Callaghan's pub. It was fantastic, he played Fulsom Prison Blues, and a host of other songs that had us singing and hollerin', practicin' for the Crue-a-thon on the drive home. And sing we did. A car full of young women pulled up next to us and cheered us on , before turning left and driving out of my life forever. |

I get to wake up each morning for a week and think , "I don't have to go to work!" and then roll back over and sleep some more. woot! |

| Smitty is... |
[Jun. 9th, 2005|03:22 pm] |
Smitty is Canada's largest family restaurant chain. Smitty is a VERY chatty little girl. Smitty is the nickname of a 62-year-old geezer whose real name is Gaylord Ewing Smith. Smitty is more than a musician-he is a deeply spiritual, healing man. Smitty is a Middle-Age, Middle-Class, Middle-Weight Wrestler. Smitty is responsible for many of the gadgets The Avenger and his crew use. Smitty is the son of Ch. Rosend's Corporate Raider and Glennroe Kona Supreme. Smitty is a pimp. Smitty is in jail for several months on a relatively minor offense. Smitty is always looking for the most outrageous time. Smitty is an excellent example of the breed. (Hear that, ladies?) Smitty is not actually a hick, he just plays one in this life.

| Another update? What am I, nuts? |
[Jun. 6th, 2005|10:15 am] |
Not a whole helluva a lot to update here, but I thought I might as well jump back in the swirling whirlpool of livejournal updates, since that seems to be the only way some of my friends keep in touch. Impersonality makes things easy, I guess. I finally saw the Star Wars movie. My thoughts can be summed up in the following three points:
1. More Star Wars action. This came closest to capturing the *feel* of the original trilogy. I have to even admit to feeling a lump in my throat when Order 66 was executed. And it was very cool to see the emergence of Darth Vader. The light saber battles were fun, the ship battles were fun.
2. I'd still like to hunt down whoever wrote the dialoge between Padme and Anakin and slap the shit out of them.
3. So much for Compassion. I understand his hands were tied by, you know, the mythos and the story that had already been written, but Kenobi showed very little compassion at the end when he walked away instead of doing the merciful thing and ending the suffering.
I also saw a Miike movie. Normally, I know to expect the off kilter. But I was never a huge Miike fan. I've only seen Ichi the Killer, which tried too hard to be edgy and cool, and Audition, which I think did fantastic things with format and pacing, but ultimately fell kinda gorily flat. However, Happiness Of The Katakuris caught me completely by surprise. First off, it is a musical. Full of singing and dancing and many many lighthearted moments. But through it all runs Miike's typical dark humor. A family opens a guest house in the mountains to try and come together as a family, but there are no guests. When one finally does show up, he dies on his first night in a grisly suicide. The proprietors discover this in a hilarious musical number full of screams and shouts, after which they decide to bury the body instead of informing the police and risking driving away business. Then, it is one trial after another until the explosive claymation finale. This film had me laughing out loud, and is a must see. |
